6-8 Cavalry assumes responsibility of training mission in Ukraine

YAVORIV, Ukraine—3rd Battalion 15th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division officially transferred authority of their Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine mission to 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment also from 2IBCT, here July 16.

The JMTG-U mission consists of training Ukrainian battalions that come through the International Peacekeeping and Security Center on a 55-day training rotation. The training is designed to reinforce defensive skills of the Ukrainian Ground Forces in order to increase their capacity for self-defense.

Reviewing Officer, Lt. Col. Karstan Jack, chief of staff for JMTG-U, congratulated 3-15 Infantry on their successful completion of the five-month long mission. Their successes included training two Ukrainian battalions and 50 new Ukrainian cadre.

Jacks welcomed 6-8 CAV and encouraged them to always remember the tenants of multinational operations, which include respect, rapport, knowledge of partners, patience, mission focus, and trust and confidence.

6-8 Cavalry will also train two battalions over the course of their five-month mission. Their first rotation, which begins at the end of July, will also be the first to have Ukrainian cadre responsible for the overall training of a company.
