Since October 2015, AMCOM has awarded more than 500 contract actions for more than $150 million to 8(a) firms, which are businesses owned and controlled at least 51 percent by socially or economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs.

AMCOM's contract actions exceed any other Army organization, according to Nancy Small, director of the Office of Small Business Programs for the Army Materiel Command.

To share in understanding the capabilities of Huntsville 8(a) firms, Donna Ragucci, the director of AMCOM's Office of Small Business Programs, and Jesse Couch, AMCOM's Small Business specialist, a July 8 groundbreaking ceremony for Yulista Aviation, an 8(a) Small Business located at the Madison/Huntsville Executive Airport in Meridianville.

After the groundbreaking ceremony, Ragucci and Couch toured the Yulista Aviation facilities. They viewed Yulista's processes for the re-fabrication of helicopter rotor blades, where employees remove a special coating used primarily in desert environments. Yulista is able to refurbish the rotor blades and get them back to the field quickly. The tour also provided insight into the reset capabilities of all things aviation from the Apache airframe, Black Hawk enhancements and Lakota technologies, including new prototypes of aircraft technologies developed through AMRDEC's Prototype Integration Facility and Yulista's PIF simulation facility in support of AMRDEC's PIF.

Yulista is just one of the many 8(a) contractors assisting and providing capabilities to AMCOM's aviation fleet. Yulista is a teaming partner with some of the AMCOM EXPRESS Program prime BPA holders and one of the joint venture contractors working at the Prototype Integration Facility.
