JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Sgt. Maj. of the Army Daniel A. Dailey visited key mission, training and support assets across the base on July 7and 8.
The driving force behind Dailey's visit was Soldier readiness, which allows the Total Army to continue to answer the nation's calls in an increasingly volatile and uncertain world.
"Readiness is our No. 1 priority," said Dailey, who was sworn in as the fifteenth sergeant major of the Army in January 2015. "One of my main objectives in coming to Joint Base (MDL) was to see what kind of future readiness training capabilities we have for the Joint Force, and specifically for the Army."
One key training capability on Dailey's base tour was the Army's Noncommissioned Officer Academy, the mission of which is to train, educate and develop leaders in the skills and attributes required to successfully lead the Total Army -- active component, Army Reserve and Army National Guard -- to mission accomplishment.
"Noncommissioned officer professional development is part of [readiness], so it's critically important that we continue to develop our noncommissioned professional development system to meet the demands of the year 2020 and beyond," Daily told the Army and Air Force students attending the academy's Basic Leader Course.
"Our noncommissioned officers need the appropriate training and education to make sure they understand their technical tasks and that they can deliver those tasks to their Soldiers in order to make their organizations ready."
Daily also hosted a town hall meeting at Timmermann Center here for Soldiers, families and Army civilians. During the meeting, he outlined the chief of staff of the Army's priorities and reinforced the Army's role in the Joint Force.
"We are our nation's premiere ground force," he explained. "It is about presence, about assuring our allies, deterring any adversaries and showing them that we are a capable force working together to be able to fight for a more prosperous world and bring peace and stability."
