HEIDELBERG, Germany -- The U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus performed its annual German-American Friendship concert, June 27, before an audience of more than 1200 people at the Heidelberg Castle in Heidelberg, Germany.

The concert attracted local citizens, U.S. Army Europe staff and family, tourists and music-lovers.

The two-hour experience included classical music arrangements with a modern twist as well as classic rock and contemporary hits. It was a wholly new and positive experience for the audience to hear Beethoven's 5th symphony conducted with a "salsa-twist".

Buergermeister Wolfgang Erichson made his opening remarks welcoming the USAREUR representatives and the USAREUR Band and Chorus back to Heidelberg. He again thanked U.S. Army Europe for the continued friendship and support for the city.

U.S. Army Europe was represented by Maj. Gen. John Gronski, U.S. Army Europe's deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Nation Guard, and Brig. Gen. Philip Jolly, deputy commanding general, Army Reserve Engagement Cell, as well as other senior members.

During his remarks, Gronski emphasized the enduring bond between the Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members of U.S. Army Europe and the City of Heidelberg. He ended his speech with the statement, "Sie haben Ihr Herz in Heidelberg verloren" or "They lost their hearts in Heidelberg" alluding to the old song about losing one's heart in Heidelberg.

The event ended on a spectacular note, pitch perfect as always, thanks to our musical ambassadors the Men and Women of the U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus!
