RADFORD ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT, Va.--The Radford Army Ammunition Plant hosted U.S. Representative Robert J. Wittman, 1st Congressional District of Virginia and U.S. Representative H. Morgan Griffith, 9th Congressional District of Virginia, along with Col. Joseph H. Chan, Program Executive Office Ammunition, here, June 20.

The Congressmen spent time talking with employees to learn about processes that make this small plant unique. The RFAAP's operating contractor, BAE, and a tenant, Orbital ATK, showcased Radford's capabilities, mission and diverse workforce.

The multi-location facility recently received funding for long-planned modernization and environmental improvement projects, which are currently in a variety of phases of planning and construction.

Congressman Wittman serves on the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee, and on the House Committee on Natural Resources. He is currently investigating the readiness of the U.S. military, to ensure service members receive proper training and to make certain all military branches have been modernized in order to face future potential challenges.

"A strong United States military creates a deterrent for people who want to threaten the country," Wittman said, while stressing that the military's purpose is not to initiate war, but to defend from aggressive forces elsewhere.

Congressman Griffith last visited RFAAP about four years ago and was keen to see the progress made on projects targeting environmental issues and modernization of the plant.

At the end of the constructive visit, both Congressmen expressed a desire to return to see more of the plant and to learn more about the far-reaching support RFAAP provides to the joint Warfighter.
