FORT BENNING, Ga., (June 22, 2016) -- Fort Benning's own, 1st Lt. Logan Burns, Task Force 1-28 is an All Army Boxing Champion.
Burns defeated Staff Sgt. Noah Butkovich from Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the 165 pounds weight class at the 2016 All Army Boxing Championship June 11 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
Burns expressed gratitude about his win and emphasized the role of task force 1-28 in that victory.
"I came here not wanting to let the Task Force down. To walk away being the champion really justifies coming here," said Burns. "I really wanted to make them proud."
Burn's victory secured his place on the All Army team. He will now head to the Police Athletic/Activities League National Tournament. Burns will fight June 18-25 in Oxnard, California.
If Burns places between first and fourth place then he will be qualified to apply for the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program. WCAP is a program that provides training and support to Soldier-athletes so they can compete in national and international competitions, including the Olympic Games.
"As a sixteen year old, I thought I could go to the Olympics, but I joined the Army and got sidetracked," said Burns. "Now I hope to go to the 2020 Olympic Games."
