Colonel Glen E. Heape

Colonel Glen E. Heape was born in Agana, Guam and spent the majority of his childhood moving as the son of a career U.S. Air Force Officer. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in Aviation in 1993 upon graduation from California State University at Sacramento.

After Flight School and the AH-64A "Apache" Qualification Course at Fort Rucker, Alabama, he served in a variety of troop assignments. Some of the more notable assignments include: Scout Platoon Leader and then Class III/V Platoon Leader, 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry, 11th Aviation Regiment at Illesheim, Germany and at Tuzla, Bosnia Herzegovina; Company Commander, C Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment (Attack), and then Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, Texas; Attack Company Trainer, Aviation Trainer Division (Eagles), Operations Group, National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California.

He also served in key staff positions at the aviation battalion and brigade-levels. Colonel Heape served as the Battalion S3 for 1-227th Aviation Regiment (Attack), 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas and during their deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2006-2008 in Baghdad, Iraq. Upon return from Iraq, he was assigned as the Battalion's XO. In December 2008, Colonel Heape functioned as the Brigade S3 for 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division and maintained the duties of the S3 through another deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2009-2010, again in Baghdad, Iraq. After redeployment, he served as the Deputy Commander of 21st Cavalry Brigade (Air Combat), Fort Hood, Texas through June 2011.

In September 2011, Colonel Heape assumed command of 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment,1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas and deployed Task Force 1-501 to Jalalabad, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 2013. After redeployment in November 2013, he briefly served as the 1st Armored Division G3 Air; subsequently, from August 2014 to June 2015, he attended the Eisenhower School, National Defense University, Fort McNair, Washington DC. Colonel Heape's last assignment was as a senior readiness analyst within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Pentagon.

Colonel Heape is a graduate of the Aviation Basic Course and Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, the Infantry Officers Advanced Course, and the Command and General Staff College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University Sacramento and two Masters Degrees, one in General Administration from Central Michigan University and the other in National Resource Strategy from Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with Numeral Three, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, GWOT Medal, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Master Army Aviator Badge.
