FORT BENNING, Ga., (June 15, 2016) -- The Outdoor Recreation division of the Fort Benning Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host its first 300-yard Rifle Competition June 18 at the Recreational Shooting Complex.

"This was something that our customers wanted. A lot of them were interested in a rifle competition and we've been trying to put on new programs at the range," said Cliff Hughes, the manager of the equipment resource center and the recreational shooting complex.

"The event is sponsored by the MWR and open to any authorized rifle user," Hughes said.

The first shots will be fired off at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. The event is free to observers. The cost to participate is $10.

The competition will consist of three parts, each at different distances and positions. In the event of a tie, there will be a shoot off at 300 yards.

"I'd like for people to come out and see the new facility if they haven't already. It should be a good competition. There will be some great prizes," said Hughes.

Interested individuals should call 706-545-6158 to register or request additional information.
