ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (June 13, 2016) -- Two U.S. Army Materiel Command noncommissioned officers convened here for three days to test their physical fitness, endurance, technical aptitude and reasoning skills.

The tasks to examine the NCOs' abilities include: Army Physical Fitness Test; land-navigation course at APG's Lauderick Creek Training Site; perform a function check, disassemble and reassemble M9, M4/M16 and M249 weapons; obstacle course; weapons qualification with the Engagement Skills Trainer 2000 at Gunpowder Military Reservation; essay; written exam; 20-kilometer road march; and board appearance before RDECOM's sergeants major.

The NCOs are:

-- Staff Sgt. Robert D. Keifer, an Infantryman assigned to the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center's Headquarters Research and Development Detachment at Natick, Massachusetts. He is from Navarre, Florida, and has eight years of service.

-- Sgt. Javier A. Gandarilla Jr., an information technology specialist assigned to the Communications Security Logistics Agency at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He is from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and has five years of service.

They will compete in the Army Materiel Command NCO of the Year Competition in July.
