Ryman, Poland -- Soldiers from the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command rendered aid to victims of a car accident June 6 in Poland.

Staff Sgt. Reynaldo Garcia, a 14T Patriot launching station Enhanced Operator/maintainer, and Sgt. Cody Garner, a 92A Automated Logistical Specialist, were driving through Ryman, Poland, on their way to Ustka to deliver supplies to Soldiers participating in exercise Anakonda 16 when they noticed two teenagers on the side of the road and a smoking vehicle crashed into a tree. They immediately pulled their vehicle over and ran to the accident site to asses the situation.

"I saw the vehicle and knew immediately I needed to go help the people in the car," explained Sgt. Garner, "I know if it was me and my family I would want someone to do the same."

After the immediate assessment, a crowd began to form. Staff Sgt. Garcia took it upon himself to keep the crowd back, find someone who spoke English, and ensured that emergency responders had been contacted. Both Garcia and Garner stayed on scene assisting the paramedics by helping move one passenger from the vehicle and by helping to treat one of the teenagers for shock.

"I'm just glad we could help," stated Staff Sgt. Garcia, "the paramedics were able to focus on the passenger who was stuck in the vehicle because they saw we had the rest under control."

The Soldiers remained on site, assisting the paramedics until all four of the victims had been medically evacuated. They then gave their contact information to the local authorities, and moved out to rejoin their unit at Anakonda 16.
