KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany -- A financial manager for the 106th Financial Management Support Unit, received the Nathan Towson Medallion for Finance Corps Soldier of the Year in Columbia, South Carolina at the Finance Regimental Ball May 13.

To earn this prestigious honor, Spc. Othmane Messouli won boards at every level from company through brigade, including the 16th Sustainment Brigade Best Warrior Competition.

"The experience I gained from those boards and competitions prepared me for the Regimental Board." said Messouli.

The final event that secured Messouli was a telephonic interview the U.S. Army Finance Corps Association.

"It was the first board that I participated in over the phone," said Messouli. "I felt more relaxed. Since the members weren't actually there, it was more knowledge-based."

"Spc. Messouli is the model Soldier to emulate," explained Sgt. Maj. Michael McCabe, the 106th FMSU senior enlisted advisor. "He crushed the board by answering questions immediately, and with detail."

Other peers and supervisors also praised Messouli's efforts.

"We are extremely proud of Spc. Messouli," said Sgt. 1st Class April Brooks, Bravo Detachment Sergeant. "He is an optimistic and fierce competitor."

This is the second year in a row a 106th FMSU Soldier claimed the title, as last year Spc. Christelle Ajifackbasso from Alpha Detachment in Grafenwoehr won.
