USAG YONGSAN - U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan hosted May 3, the voter's assistance workshop at the South Post Chapel. The event was facilitated by Director of Communications and Outreach Scott Wiedmann of the Federal Voting Assistance Program. Voting assistance officers from other installations in South Korea and Japan gathered to attend and receive training.

Sgt. Maj. Grandison of the Eighth U.S. Army provided the opening remarks to a room full of Soldiers and civilians who listened attentively. "The information you learn here is for you to take back and pass on," said Sgt. Maj. Grandison. His spoken words reinforced the important role that VAOs play in the voting process of Soldiers, Civilians and Family Members stationed overseas.

As the course continued, Wiedmann took the lead and handed out voting materials. A 2016-17 Voting Assistance Guide was given to those in attendance. The book was used to reference information that was provided during his presentation.

USAG Yongsan VAO Timothy Harper said, "The course was great! Good questions were asked in response to the training, which created dialogue that was very helpful."

At the close of the event, Certificates of Completion were awarded to the attendees. Overall, the event was a success, and VAOs are more equipped to assist U.S. citizens in the absentee ballot and the voter registration process.
