FORT SILL, Okla. -- School is almost out for the summer and those parents who are seeking summer programs for their children can contact Child and Youth and School Services for information about the various camps they operate. These weekly camps target children from kindergarten through high school with a price based on family income.

Camps operate daily from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and are booked weekly. The intent is to provide as much flexibility as possible during the summer months so family can go on vacations without being charged for unused days. Children who are enrolled in the weekly camps can expect to go on field trips to places such as the spray park, science museum or the zoo.

Acceptance into the program is on a first-come, first-served basis and already waiting lists are forming for high-demand weeks, although the Youth Center still has many vacancies. Those parents who are interested can call Parents Central Services at 580-442-3486 or visit their office in the Welcome Center (Building 4700).

Additionally, parents should be aware of the home-alone policy for Fort Sill. Children who are in fifth and sixth grade can be left home alone only if they have ready access to adult supervision and only for three hours. Children are not permitted to babysit for siblings until they are in seventh grade and cannot watch children overnight until they are in 10th grade. See the chart for more information.
