JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Regional Health Command- Central (Provisional) is building strong partnerships with generating and operating forces in the region to support strategic and operational requirements throughout their geographical areas of responsibility.

This critically important topic dominated the conversation between Army Surgeon General Lt. Gen. Nadja Y. West and Maj. Gen. Thomas R. Tempel Jr., commanding general of RHC-C (P), and his staff during West's visit to the regional headquarters May 4.

Supporting the Army Chief of Staff's number one priority--Readiness--Maj. Gen. Tempel discussed the region's role as a force provider and a force multiplier for health care support to Army commands within the central region. RHC-C (P) continues to strengthen regional alliances with Army Service Component Commands like U.S. Army South, and other commands within the region such as III Corps and the Fires Center of Excellence, to name a few.

West praised RHC-C staff for their efforts in communicating and coordinating with Army commanders to provide a single point-of-contact in the region in order to support mission and campaign objectives and hot-button medical issues. According to the surgeon general, developing these relationships and participating in operations that exercise the medical teams in their wartime critical skills is crucial. "If you don't get this right, it doesn't matter what else you get right," she insisted.

West is continuing her tour of the central region with a visit to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center on Fort Hood. In April, she previously visited Weed Army Community Hospital on Fort Irwin.

RHC-C (P) has mission command of health readiness platforms in 20 states west of the Mississippi river. This includes Public Health Command Central and Dental Command Central. It is one of four multi-disciplinary regional health commands in the U.S. Army.
