Ramstein Air Base, Germany -- Over 1900 Soldiers and Airmen from the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, the 603rd Air Operations Center, the 609th Combined Air Operations Center, and over 10 NATO partners participated in their inaugural Cross Combatant Command Air and Missile Defense Exercise, CAMDEX 16, April 18 - 28th on Ramstein Air Base. This exercise served as a capstone event for an Integrated Air and Missile Defense exercise spanning both the European Combatant Command and Central Combatant Command areas of responsibility.

CAMDEX 16, which is short for Combined Air and Missile Defense Exercise 2016, was designed to increase mission readiness of both combatant commands' air defense artillery assets through integration and cooperation with joint and multinational partners. This exercise was the first of its kind, and focused heavily on cooperation with NATO allies including missile defense systems from Italy, Spain, and France. In order to meet the carefully crafted goals for this exercise, Soldiers and Airmen participated in several integrated air and missile defense scenarios. These scenarios challenged all participants to develop an intelligence architecture that would allow for simultaneous collaboration and utilization of joint targeting methodology in a dynamic environment. By taking the initiative to create, test and refine architectures and tactics, techniques, and procedures both combatant commands and NATO have improved mission readiness.

"This exercise provided an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate a strong Europe and strengthen the alliance," stated Maj. Paul Mendoza, the 10th AAMDC Chief of Operations.
