"Our Environmental and Energy offices will have outreach booths available to pass out information regarding Earth Day, environmental and energy awareness issues," said Ms. Yvette Lynn Bordallo, U.S. Army Garrison-Daegu Environmental Protection Specialist.

Environmental stewardship is very important to the Army, it is a mission enhancer and meets the current and future needs of Soldiers, their Families, and the nation through better training lands, improved recreational opportunities, healthier communities, and new and improved public partnerships.

Environmental sustainability is now part of every Army installation and unit operations, from munitions production to live-fire training, from the housing areas to forward operating bases.

In celebration of Earth Day, there were many events held in Area IV. On 31st March, a cleanup project took place at the Nakdong river. This cleanup was hosted by the Korean National Environmental Office and was supported by both civic groups and the ROK Army. Soldiers from Headquarters, Headquarters Company, USAG-Daegu, the Republic of Korea Army's 50th Division, 2nd Operational Command and the ROK Marine Corps 1st Recon Battalion, helped with the cleanup of the river.

The greeters provided environmentally friendly product brochures and information. Organic sample stations were also set up to introduce shoppers to new items.

At the PX, there was a hanging mural and Earth Day competition posters in the Food Court. Elementary schoolchildren entered a contest to design an Earth Day poster. The competition posters made from natural items, like the leaves of tree.

There were employees and interns from USAG-Daegu Department of Public Works Environmental and Energy Division who greeted and introduce shoppers to various recycled items. Attendees received a free pencil made from recycled currency and reclaimed denim.
