Lt. Col. Matthew A. Posner, M.D., has been named as the next Director of the John A. Feagin, Jr. Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program.
He will assume responsibilities in 2017, replacing Col. Steve Svoboda.
Posner is a 1994 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and has earned medical degrees from Loyola University -- Chicago (2001) and Penn State College of Medicine (2006). He completed an orthopaedic residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas, in 2011, and completed a John A. Feagin Jr. Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2012.
The John A. Feagin, Jr. Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at West Point is the only Dept. of Defense Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship and is partnered with the Orthopaedic Residency Program at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Annually, two active duty Fellows are trained here at West Point in the full spectrum of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine in preparation for future service to the entire DOD community.
West Point is world-renowned within the orthopaedic community as a leader in sports medicine surgery and research. Lt. Col. Posner will be assuming an exciting, multi-faceted, and challenging position. In addition to clinical and teaching responsibilities, the Fellowship Director historically serves as the Head Team Physician for the Army West Point NCAA Division I sports programs, responsible for direct team coverage as well as the sideline and training-room care of athletes.
Moreover, there are several ongoing complex research projects managed by the Fellowship Director in conjunction with Keller's robust research team that has consistently produced award-winning clinical studies.
