REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (April 20, 2016) -- Innovation was the topic of conversation at the Association of the United States Army's 17th annual Missile Symposium held April 19. Specifically, this year's theme statement was, "Delivering Innovation and Advantage for the Warfighter 2025 and beyond."

Juanita Harris, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center's Weapons Development and Integration director, contributed her thoughts as a member of the panel discussion.

"What is the intent of moving forward and bringing innovation to the table?" asked Harris. "There are a multitude of definitions, but ultimately it is the ability to empower significant, positive change. The importance of innovation is really to the Warfighter. As the S&T manager, we have to move forward by getting those enabled, new capabilities out to the Soldier so we're ensuring a decisive edge for them. This means working hand in hand with the program offices to reduce risk and prepare a seamless transition."

The AUSA Missile Symposium promotes pertinent discussion topics in an open forum environment. The forum provides senior government and industry program managers and their staffs the opportunity to meet and interact with their counterparts. Collaborative events such as this gives industry leaders the chance to assess their Independent Research and Development programs in light of the Army's S&T focus and the Program Executive Offices' program directions.
