Association honors Army civilians of year

Loyalty. Duty. Respect. Selfless service. Honor. Integrity. Personal courage.

More than just words in the Army Civilian Corps Creed, those characteristics define the responsibilities of the Army civilian and integral role that civilians play in the success of the mission.

Redstone dignitaries, local leaders and members of Association of the U.S. Army gathered at the Von Braun Center North Hall April 12 for the annual AUSA Redstone-Huntsville Chapter DA Civilians of the Year Awards Dinner. Each year AUSA recognizes Army civilians who exemplify the best of the best in their diverse fields.

"The real contribution of our Army civilians is the incredible range of skills, talents and leadership that our Army civilian corps brings to the table every day," said guest speaker Lisha Adams, executive deputy to the commanding general of the Army Materiel Command and the 2010 DA Civilian of the Year.

Daniel Featherston, was named overall 2016 Civilian of the Year. He was nominated by Michael A. Bieri, director of the Engineering Directorate for Aviation & Missile Research, Development & Engineering/Research, Development and Engineering Command.

The winners from the four categories were Fred W. Allen, Management/Executive; Daniel Featherston, Technical/Technical Management; Kimberly Whisenant, Professional/Technical; and Marissa Dulz, Supporting Staff.

The following nominees in each category were recognized during the dinner:

• Management/Executive: Fred W. Allen, Dr. Steve F. Pierce.

• Technical/Technical Management: Regina Abernathy, Tom Barnett, Joseph Pepper Bryars, David Cosby, Dr. Dawn Dunkerley, Mark Feathers, Daniel Featherston, Iwalani Gutierrez, Daniel Hemeyer, Thomas Hoskins, Donald Sanders, Dale Smith, David Tritt, Julia Vaughn.

• Professional/Technical: Richard Bumgardner, Richard Coates, Jesse Couch, James Elliott, Giovanni Estrada, James Gordon, Robert Mitchell, Joyce Myers, Wallace Lionel Myers, Michael Owings, Matthew Rushing, LaToya Sims, Francisco Villanueva, Rosalind Walker, Kimberly Whisenant.

• Supporting Staff: Kum Cha Bertling, Anne Crenshaw, Marissa Dulz, Linda King, Katrina Neeley.
