ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (April 18, 2016) -- During the Association of the United States Army Global Force Symposium & Exhibition, March 15-17, in Huntsville, Alabama, Army researchers found an important audience for recent projects.
The U.S. Army Research Laboratory provided an exhibit explaining its efforts on advanced protection technologies.
"Throughout the three-day symposium, the ARL subject-matter experts interacted with several hundred AUSA attendees, including the Honorable Patrick Murphy, acting Secretary of the Army, and other senior Army leadership," said Steve Taulbee, an engineer with ARL's Weapons and Materials Research Directorate.
Taulbee said the advanced protection technologies display included samples of advanced armor materials, biomechanics and blast-effects simulations, as well as head protection -- including the latest Soldier helmet shell component and the NFL Head Health Challenge project.
"The ARL team demonstrated our world-leading role in vehicle and personnel protection and how we are moving forward in our Sciences for Lethality and Protection Campaign to maintain state-of-the-art in protection technologies," Taulbee said. "We told the acting Secretary of the Army about the successful integration of materials, manufacturing science and biomechanics research to develop the technologies underpinning the new Enhanced Combat Helmet."
Taulbee said the secretary was impressed.
"He said that he would like to visit ARL," Taulbee said.
The laboratory also provided an interactive display of 3-D terrain visualization from its Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate.
Researchers from ARL and its partners from across the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command presented the Sustainment Aerial mobility Vehicle, a quad-rotor semiautonomous unmanned aerial vehicle.
