Fort Huachuca, Arizona - A supply specialist from the Communications Security Logistics Activity (CSLA) has been selected as Fort Huachuca's best employee in March.
Graham Vetta has been with the government for 14 years and 11 months and at his current assignment for seven years. The former Soldier and Naval Reservist serves as a general supply specialist and CSLA's primary hand receipt holder. He advises the activity director on Army logistics supply policies, concepts and principles. Vetta is accountable for the CSLA property book with an inventory valued at more than $6 million, conducts 100-percent inventory twice a year and completes monthly audits among other duties. His mission includes performance evaluation, inventory management and equipment control.
Lina Gamez, supervisor, Communications Security Mission Support Branch, nominated Vetta, calling him "a truly dedicated civil servant and a watchdog over the property and equipment entrusted to his oversight," citing his many accomplishments and contributions to the CSLA mission including his role and success as a safety officer.
Gamez cited Vetta's responsible use of taxpayer dollars by reusing government property rather than turning it in. He "has made a habit of notifying his property management peers in other local CECOM elements to inquire if they may have a need for particular items CSLA no longer needs," she said.
"Another great way he reuses durable items, particularly excess furniture, is coordinating continued use with two high school Junior Reserve Officer Training Centers (JROTC) which have valid property accounts with the Fort Huachuca Garrison Property Book Office. If needed, these items are laterally transferred to the appropriate accounts, ensuring continued accountability and service," she added.
"Over the past four years, Mr. Vetta has transferred 238 items of equipment worth an estimated $137,400 to these two programs. Due to shrinking operating budgets, the JROTC programs viewed these property transfers as a windfall, allowing available funds to be concentrated on the students," Gamez said.
His nominator calls Vetta "a dedicated husband, father, citizen and civil servant," who is involved with the upbringing of his four children and two adopted children, is active in Benson's Cowboy Church and the City of Benson's youth soccer league.
"He's very professional both at work and at home," she said. "He's well rounded, good to work with, and overall, a great individual."
Vetta, a Benson resident, is a proud husband and father. He and his wife Amanda celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in October. Their children include Katilyn, 19, Elliot, 16, Megan, 15, Sebastian, 14, Johnathan, 8, and Kathryn, 6. Vetta considers his greatest accomplishment to be successfully raising his children to adulthood.
The Civilian of the Month shares advice for success.
"Work hard, don't goof off, and stay on task," he says. "That's how I've done it. When you make mistakes, own up to them and always be truthful.
"I thank my supervisor for nominating me," Vetta said. "I also thank my wife for her support."
