More than 100 people braved an unusually cold spring morning April 8 to participate in the second road race of the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's Commander's Race Series, the Race along the River Cherry Blossom 5K run and 1-Mile walk.

The event, in its third annual, took place at the Fort McNair portion of JBM-HH, located in Washington, D.C.'s south west region. The race coincides with the annual blooming of cherry trees in D.C.

"The weather really did not hold back the runners and walkers from taking part," said event organizer Todd Hopkins of JBM-HH Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. "The clouds above the river and D.C. had turned a shade of pink in preparation for the start of the race."

Official results from the race included:

Overall Male Runner -- Stephen Wilson, who finished in 16:13

Overall Female Runner -- Daniella Lagrand, who finished in 20:07

Overall Youth -- Xavier Rameriz, who finished in 28:05

Overall Male Walker -- Travis Munder

Overall Female Walker -- Amber McLamb

Largest Military Unit with 31 Members -- Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Garrison.

The third race in the Commander's Race Series is the Reelin' and Rockin' Sock Hop May 6 starting at the Fort Myer Fitness Center. Additionally, there are two Army Ten-Miler JBM-HH Team qualifier races taking place: May 20 and June 10.
