The Army's main objective in sponsoring the Training with Industry (TWI) program is to continue to develop a group of Soldiers experienced in higher level managerial techniques and who have an understanding of the relationship of their industry as it relates to specific functions and applications of the Army. Participants will also be exposed to innovative industrial management practices, techniques, procedures, and technical applications which have direct and beneficial applicability to the Army. Once the TWI student is integrated back into an Army organization, they can use their training and information to interact and conduct business with industry improving the Army's Readiness ability. Every year, 68As (Biomedical Equipment Specialist) compete for selection into TWI. The 68A TWI program is an internship with Philips Healthcare. Selectees will have a permanent change of station (PCS) and serve in Philips Healthcare training facilities in Cleveland, Ohio for one year to become a subject matter expert in various diagnostic imaging modalities as well as attain the additional skills identifier (ASI) M1.
Selectees will complete a utilization tour either at United States Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA), U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (MRMC) or a Health Readiness Platform (Medical Center, Medical Activity), U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM). When a follow-on utilization assignment occurs at USAMMA, TWI graduates are assigned to a Forward Repair Activity - Medical (FRA-M) which is an organizational element that combines strategic level maintenance with logistical assistance and forward repair activities in Theater. The FRA-M team also mentors 68As, supports Medical Treatment Facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan, augments the USAMMA Medical Logistics Support Team for Prepositioned Stocks, and assists with relief in Place/Transfer of Authority to ensure mission capable systems. When a follow-on utilization assignment occurs at a MEDCOM Health Readiness Platform, graduates are assigned to the Clinical Engineering Division within the activity. TWI alumni provide effective and efficient technical acumen that reduces manufacturing dependencies and challenges which are often associated with costly contract support. The technical expertise of a TWI graduate increases the availability of imaging services allowing the Army's medical activities to continue to accomplish its core mission of providing healthcare to all beneficiaries.
This year, the TWI program was fortunate enough to welcome a third allocation for training and are excited to announce the FY 2016 TWI selectees: Sgt. 1st Class Patrick Ortiz, Sgt. 1st Class Edward Hurtado and Staff Sgt. Richard Albertson. Congratulations to these great Soldiers!
Every year, Human Resources Command (HRC) releases TWI competitive board through a MILPER message release and this year's board proved no different than past boards as all applicants were highly qualified and board results were very close. This year's board consisted of senior 670As, and senior 68As from around the world. The board looked closely at their performance, education, training, and experience to select the best qualified. If you plan to submit your packet for the next board, start preparing now. To find out more information, visit the TWI information page.
