USAREUR units tapped for deployment to Iraq

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- The Department of Defense announced today that 2nd

Stryker Cavalry Regiment, headquartered in Vilseck, and 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st

Armored Division, headquartered in Baumholder, will deploy in support of Operation

Iraqi Freedom. The deployments will take place between August and November 2007 as

part of the OIF 07-09 rotation.

Units deploying with the 2SCR include:

Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2SCR

1st Squadron, 2SCR

2nd Squadron, 2SCR

3rd Squadron, 2SCR

4th Squadron, 2SCR

Fires Squadron, 2SCR

Regimental Support Squadron, 2SCR

Engineer Troop, 2SCR

Anti-Armor Troop, 2SCR

Signal Troop, 2SCR

Military Intelligence Troop, 2SCR

Units deploying with 2nd BCT, 1AD include:

Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd BCT

1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment

1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment

2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment

47th Combat Support Battalion

Special Troops Battalion, 2nd BCT

Fire Support Battalion, 2nd BCT

40th Engineer Battalion

G Troop, 1st Cavalry Regiment

502nd Military Intelligence Company

589th Signal Company

The leadership of the mentioned units will train and prepare its Soldiers for any mission

that they may be given. This announcement provides the unit with a timeline for a future

deployment and a focus for training. Future decisions about this deployment will be

based on requirements as directed by the combatant commander.

Also previously announced by the Department of Defense, 1st Armored Division

headquarters will deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Germany's "Old

Ironsides" headquarters last served in Iraq in September 2004.

As part of its non-negotiable commitment to take care of Families, the U.S. Army in

Europe will ensure that the military community infrastructure will continue to support the

needs of all members of the community while the unit is deployed.
