Soldiers and civilians participated in a Resiliency Expo and Fitness challenge at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, March 26.

The expo, sponsored by Area Support Group - Kuwait and the 10th Combat Support Hospital highlighted medical, spiritual and fitness resources available to Servicemembers and civilians stationed on the base.

"At the expo we are providing Soldiers with information and an opportunity to talk with the individuals who can provide them information that they might not have been aware of," said Sgt. 1st Class Beverlee Burton, the Area Support Group-Kuwait Mentorship Female Forum noncommissioned officer and NCOIC of the resiliency expo. "When it comes to the fitness challenge, they are offered the opportunity to try out the various fitness classes available. You may have never been to a spin or yoga class, then this was a chance to try it so later on if you like what you experienced, then you can continue with the classes."

According to Burton, there were around 40 exhibitors who showcased fitness, spiritual and mental health. This allows individuals the chance to get a follow-up appointment with the exhibitors if needed. Though there is a variety of topics, they all related to the inclusion of the performance triad, which is important when it comes to physical health and resilience.

The performance triad is an Army Medicine comprehensive plan to improve readiness and increase resilience through public health initiatives and leadership engagement. The triad is the foundation for a transformation to a system for health that promotes readiness, resilience and responsibility.

The focus of the performance triad is on sleep, activity, and nutrition, which are key actions that influence health. According to the program, the biggest positive impact on health is made by making better choices in your life.

"From a medical standpoint, it is important to get the knowledge to the Soldiers, Injury prevention health and motion build resilience and help get through a healthy deployment." Lt. Col. Allan Boudreaus, the emergency room officer-in-charge with 10th Combat Support Hospital.

According to Boudreaus, preventive medicine is one of the most important techniques for staying healthy.

"The preventive health booth had all the bugs that are located on Camp Arifjan to show the Soldiers what to look out for," said Boudreaus. "If you see one of these animals, don't mess with it. Contact preventive medicine and let them handle the situation."

The expo provided Soldiers with class and event schedules to help them progress in their own personal performance triad, said Burton.

"The expo was a good experience and provided me with excellent information about what is available on Camp Arifjan to stay healthy and fit," said Spc. Shakeem Tobas, a human resource specialist with 1st Theater Sustainment Command.
