Ricardo Colón Acevedo is a contracting officer at the 409th Contracting Support Brigade's 928th Contracting Battalion /Regional Contracting Office in Bavaria.

As a contracting officer, he is a team lead in the supplies and services division and is the contracting officer for nine contract specialists assigned to that branch.

"I see my job as a force multiplier--an enabler--so of speak," he said. "In general terms, we contracting professionals enhance logistical capabilities for customers throughout our service area. We are another tool in the logistics toolbox that when employed deliberately, provide long-term solutions that enable military and civilian leaders to shift organic resources to other areas in their battle area of operations."

Colón has been with the 928th CBN/ RCO Bavaria for five years. He came to the unit as an Army major who was new to the acquisition field. After four years with the unit on active duty, he retired in September with more than 25 years of service and made the transition into his position as a civilian.

He also recently completed the Certified Federal Contract Manager certification through the National Contract Management Association certification program. The CFCM exam consists of 150 questions based on the entire Federal Acquisition Regulation.

Colón holds a master's in Management from Columbia Southern University. He is also Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Level III certified in contracting.

"On top of all his responsibilities, Ricardo is training a brand new Captain and is the contract specialist on a $20 million project. He did this all while accomplishing his NCMA certification," said Pam Moody, Chief, Supply and Services Division, 928th CBN/ RCO Bavaria.

Colón is originally from Puerto Rico but calls Brandon, Florida home. He has two daughters, Yenesis, 20, and Omaira, 17, and has been married for 21 years to wife Cristina. He spends his spare time with his family or riding his motorcycle.
