FORT BELVOIR, Virginia -- The U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command's (INSCOM) Charles F. Sardo was promoted to Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service in an appointment ceremony officiated by Maj. Gen. George J. Franz III, INSCOM commanding general, at Fort Belvoir's Nolan Building, March 21.

Franz said he could not think of anyone more deserving and highlighted Sardo's experience in the Army, then in industry as a defense contractor, and finally as INSCOM's deputy chief of staff, all making him the best choice as INSCOM's newest chief of staff.

"Chuck is a true combat multiplier in everything he does," Franz said. "He has extensive experience working with the national intelligence community and coalition mission partners."

During his military career Sardo served in various leadership positions including INSCOM director of operations (G3), Department of the Army Intelligence Policy division chief, 10th Mountain Division G2, and 10th Mountain Division MI battalion commander.

Following seven years working management positions in civilian industry, Sardo was hired as INSCOM's deputy chief of staff in 2009. He held this position until his current promotion to chief of staff.

"(Sardo) constantly aligns himself with the Army intelligence enterprise, the G2's and INSCOM's priorities, and he fights to ensure we are on the right track with each and every action, each and every day," Franz said prior to the presentation of the SES flag. "We look forward to what you will accomplish in the future."

As chief of staff, Sardo directs the planning and execution of financial processes, human resources management, corporate information management, business planning, personnel resource assignments and skill development, and oversees other critical support services such as risk management and special staff functions within INSCOM headquarters. These managed activities interface with higher headquarters, conduct extensive coordination of staff actions, develop command policies and guidance, and provide expert staff advice to the commanding general.

"I'm thankful for your collective support because no one does it alone," Sardo said to those in attendance. "I will strive each day to ensure your faith in my ability to serve this command is well placed."

After thanking those in attendance, Sardo quoted a former professional baseball player.

"Some may have more talent than you but there is no excuse for anyone working harder than you do," Derek Jeter said. "My office is at Yankee Stadium. Yes, dreams do come true."

Sardo closed the ceremony with his own version of Jeter's words.

"Well my office is at INSCOM Headquarters," Sardo added. "Folks my dream has also come true."
