FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- About 370 Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (LI) will deploy to Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Spartan Shield beginning this month.

Soldiers from Task Force Dragon will provide the full range of Army aviation mission support as a part of the advise and assist mission to build partner capacity in Kuwait and other locations in the region for up to nine months.

"The aviation units of Fort Drum are selected to rapidly deploy in support of operations like Inherent Resolve as well as other worldwide missions due to their proven record, aviation expertise and high state of readiness," said Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Bannister, 10th Mountain Division (LI) commander.

The U.S. Army is globally engaged in supporting combatant command missions and has approximately 186,000 Soldiers committed in 140 countries. The Army's forward presence and stationing builds partner capacity, assures allies, and deters aggressors.

The 10th Mountain Division's mission capabilities are perfectly aligned with this effort, as it is once again asked to rapidly deploy adaptive expeditionary units and execute unified land operations.

"Since its reactivation in 1985, the 10th Mountain Division has been called upon to answer our nation's call in the tradition of the Mountain Soldiers of World War II," said Col. Michael C. McCurry, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade commander. "These great Mountaineers from 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment continue in that lineage. They are well-trained, well-led and ready to accomplish the mission."

The battalion recently completed a deliberate training program that prepared them for this upcoming deployment.

The unit last deployed in April 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
