CAMP DARBY, Italy -- Pisa Prefect Attilio Visconti visited Camp Darby March 11, the first since his appointment in 2015.

Visconti was accompanied by his wife Michela and Pisa Questore Alberto Franchi.

David Leinberger, deputy garrison manager, together with Italian Base Commander Lt. Col. Renato Vaira, offered the group an informational briefing on the installation functions and missions. After the briefing, the group took a windshield tour of the post, the depot area and the ammunition storage area.

"I am incredibly surprised and fascinated by the beauty of this installation," said Visconti. "I enjoyed every single moment of this visit. The windshield tour of the installation was very informative."

The visit continued at the Darby Community Center where the visitors enjoyed a typical American lunch.

"I am really glad I was able to accept this invitation," Visconti said. "It is important that we all fully understand the capabilities of this reality. [Camp Darby] is so important, both from a political point of view and even more for the economic impact this installation has on the local community of Pisa and the surrounding areas."

The guests were given a framed photo of the group as a memento of the visit, and they left with the promise of coming again for future community events.
