The Department of the Army announced today the deployment of two aviation units this spring in support of combatant global requirements. The 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, stationed in Fort Drum, New York, will deploy in April with approximately 400 soldiers to Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Meanwhile, the 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade, stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas, will deploy in May with approximately 700 soldiers to Europe in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
The 1/10th Aviation Regiment deployment is part of the scheduled rotation of forces to Kuwait and Iraq. "The aviation units of Fort Drum are selected to rapidly deploy in support of Operations like Inherent Resolve as well as other worldwide missions due to their proven record, aviation expertise and high state of readiness," Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Bannister, commanding general, 10th Mountain Division said. "I am confident in the capabilities of the soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment Attack Reconnaissance Battalion."
Soldiers from the 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade, the "Iron Eagles," will work under U.S. Army Europe to execute medical transport and aviation operations throughout Europe, to participate in joint-multinational training exercises, partner with NATO and United States Joint Forces to improve interoperability and strengthen relationships with Allies and partner nations. "These soldiers are well -trained, well-led and fully prepared for the challenges this mission will bring," Maj. Gen. Stephen Twitty, commanding general of 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss said. "These first-class aviators proved themselves during a rigorous home station training regimen and are ready for this important mission."
