Representatives from the Singapore Armed Forces visited Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Tuesday, March 15 through Thursday, March 17 for the Singapore-U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Talks. The primary purpose of the visit was to share training and doctrine practices with the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, and reaffirm the value of Singapore/U.S. Training and Doctrine Command partnership. Topics shared during the visit included realistic training, training and learning transformation, brigade and division level training, developing strong soldiers, and adaptive and resilient leadership.
The visit culminated with a memorandum of agreement signing. The symbolic gesture was intended to ensure a continued strengthening of the partnership between the military forces of Singapore and the United States.
The Singapore Armed Forces was represented by Brig. Gen. Chan Wing Kai, Military Expert 7 Shue Pei Soon, Senior Lt. Col. Andy Ong, Lt. Col. Jason Nam, Lt. Col. Chua Chay, Maj. Rudy Lim, Capt. Franklin Chua and Lt. Col Alan Foo. Representing the Combined Arms Center were Maj. Gen. Mark O'Neil, Col. Myron Reineke, Col. Edward Bohnemann, Tom Turner, Allen Borgardts, Maj. Greg Pavlichko, Thomas Jordan and Col. John Rogers. This was the second Training and Doctrine Talks co-chaired by general officers.
During the visit, O'Neil welcomed the delegation to Kansas and reaffirmed the importance of the close partnership between the two armies.
"The Training and Doctrine Talks is important as a platform for our two armies' TRADOC to exchange ideas in the areas of operations, training, and doctrine as well as, leaders and Soldiers development," said O'Neil, deputy commanding general of the Combined Arms Center - Training. "To me, it's all about collaboration, transparency and learning from each other," "We are going to be better and stronger partners as we continue to deal with this complex world we work together in. Compatibility matters."
"We have achieved our objective to have a discussion in a professional manner," said Chan, head of the Singapore Armed Forces delegation and commander of the Singapore TRADOC. "We are happy to do our part to strengthen the relationship with our American allies."
This was the seventh Training and Doctrine Talks the Singapore and U.S. armies have conducted; the last one was held in December of 2014 at Pasir Laba Camp in Singapore. The next meeting will be held in Singapore one year from now.
