ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, IL -- Sgt. Maj. Brian Marone, Distribution Management Center, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, was laterally promoted to command sergeant major, here, March 7, during a ceremony that celebrated his achievement and also wished him farewell.
Marone has served as the DMC's sergeant major since July 2013.
"It's been an honor and a privilege to work alongside such great leaders," said Marone. "This organization is about more than just coming in and punching on a keyboard; this is global logistics at its best."
Marone's next assignment is Fort Hood, Texas, where he will serve as the 15th Brigade Support Battalion command sergeant major.
"You will have an enormous impact on roughly 500 Soldiers in the Army," said Maj. Gen. Kevin O'Connell, commanding general, ASC. "Your legacy will be their careers. The Army has entrusted you with their discipline, welfare and morale. It is a huge step going from sergeant major to command sergeant major."
Nearly 100 ASC employees, Soldiers and civilians attended Marone's promotion and farewell.
"He's a real leader," said Sgt. 1st Class James Borchardt, DMC. "He's not just one to talk about standards. He represents the standards, he enforces the standards, and he lives by the standards."
Marone's wife, Tiffany, was also recognized for her generous support of the RIA and Quad Cities communities. Marone thanked his family for their support during his 23-plus year Army career, as well as ASC leaders, his peers and the Soldiers that worked for him.
