FORT BENNING, Ga., (March 9 2016) -- The Fort Benning Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will welcome students from Russell County, Muscogee County and Chattahoochee County April 8 to the Fort Benning Field Day for Tri-Community Exceptional Children.

Close to 1,000 students participated in the 2015 event which included activities such as the long jump, lawn bowling, and a football toss.

The Field Day will also have indoor activities for participants in wheelchairs at the Smith Fitness Center, said Vivian Pedrozo, DFMWR's Aquatics director.

"It was so nice to see all the Soldiers and civilian volunteers come together for these kids. Everyone had such a great time. We have letters from the students telling us about much they enjoyed it," Pedrozo said, recalling last year's Field Day.

She added that they expect a similar turnout for this year's event.

Field Day is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. with the opening ceremonies. The activities will follow starting at 9:30 a.m. The event will conclude around 1:30 p.m. after all awards have been given out. Each student who participates in the Field Day will leave with a T-shirt and a medal.

DFMWR is currently seeking volunteers for the Field Day. Those interested can contact DFMWR Youth Sports Director Dorrie Wagner at dorrie.c.wagner.naf@mail.mil.
