ELLINGTON FIELD JOINT RESERVE BASE, Texas -- Pledging to continue the tradition of successful accomplishments of the 75th Training Command, Command Sgt. Maj. Richard T. Schoenberger assumed responsibility of the 75th's command sergeant major position during a ceremony at the Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base February 28.

The change of responsibility occurred with the traditional passing of the unit colors from Command Sgt. Maj. Ronnie Farmer, who served as the 75th command sergeant major since November 2012, to Schoenberger.

"When I look back at my time at the 75th, I realize it's one of the best teams I've ever been on," said Farmer. "This has really been an amazing experience for me."

The commander of the 75th Training Command, Maj. Gen. James "Boe" Young, Jr., said the ceremony was bittersweet as he praised Farmer for a job well done.

"Command Sergeant Major Farmer has led our formations for more than three years and there has been a marked improvement in not only the unit, but in the Soldiers of the unit," said Young. "He has been an inspiration for me and just about every Soldier in this command."

The 75th Training Command prepares Army units for missions by conducting training exercises, while mentoring & training the senior leaders of those units in mission command and decision-making.

As the 75th command sergeant major, Schoenberger will advise the commander about enlisted and noncommissioned officer matters and will be responsible for the morale, welfare, standards and training of all military personnel in the unit.

Young said that although he's losing an excellent senior enlisted advisor in Farmer, he has no doubt Schoenberger will be up to the task.

"When I interviewed Command Sergeant Major Schoenberger, I was left with one distinct impression; this NCO knows how to Soldier and knows how to lead Soldiers," said Young. "I am fired up to have him join the team."

Schoenberger said he is eager to serve alongside the Soldiers of the 75th Training Command as their senior enlisted advisor.

"We will continue to provide training and expertise to all the commands throughout the U.S. Army and I look forward to serving all of you in the 75th," Schoenberger said to the Soldiers of the command.

Prior to arriving at the 75th, Schoenberger served with the 350th Civil Affairs Command in Pensacola, Fla. He entered the active U.S. Army in July 1985, and after one enlistment he joined the Army Reserve in 1989. In his civilian career Schoenberger is a property crimes detective for the San Antonio Police Department.

Schoenberger has held leadership positions at all levels throughout his career. He is a graduate of the Airborne, Ranger, Drill Sergeant Schools, the Small Group Instructor Course, the Observer Controller Trainer Course, the Battle Staff NCO Course, the prestigious U.S. Army Sergeant's Major Academy, the Brigade Battalion Pre-Command Course and the Senior Leader Orientation Course.
