Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel Dailey visited the Army Medical Department Center and School, Army Health Readiness Center of Excellence, Feb. 18 to observe training and meet with NCOs. Dailey started his day joining Soldiers attending enlisted medical training during morning physical training activities accompanied by Command Sergeant Major Andrew Rhoades. Highlights of his visit included an orientation tour of the Flight Paramedic Training Facility where he observed paramedic training exercises featuring air evacuation, forward surgical team critical care and the use of the most sophisticated simulators available for medical training. The faculty provided background regarding the mechanics of the simulators to replicate traumatic injuries and electronic management of interventions as teaching tools and AAR skills and medical techniques grading. The faculty also demonstrated how the facility incorporates distance learning technology to provide refresher training to units deployed or preparing to deploy. Dailey also observed how the synthetic cadaver is employed to instruct anatomy and physiology to teach students how to perform needle decompression, tracheotomy and learn the size, location and feel of internal organs. SMA Dailey then visited the 68W "combat medic" training site to talk to initial entry students attending the Healthcare Specialist course. Dailey lunched with Sergeants Major assigned to 32nd Medical Brigade and the Academy Brigade (Provisional) at Slagel Dining Facility prior to visiting the AMEDD NCO Academy and observe training at the advanced leader course and the senior leader course. SMA closed his visit by hosting a NCO townhall meeting.
