FORT GORDON, Ga. (Feb. 19, 2016) - As Army installations such as Fort Gordon continue to transform and grow, services and support will proceed to be modernized to sustain various mission and multiple services based here.
Alexander Hall closed due to the remodeling of its foyer leading into the main auditorium. During the three to four month construction project, the Signal Theater will be used as a substitute for various unit and installation level events. The auditorium space inside Alexander Hall will remain the same.
Six months ago, the command funded the project to update the entrance of the auditorium from its predated 1960s arrangement into a modernized and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.
"If we are the premiere site for cyber, graduating Soldiers, noncommissioned officers and officers, we want to make their family and guests' first visit more welcoming and professional," said Thomas Fitzpatrick, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security director.
Updating the vintage restrooms it also part of the foyer renovation.
Previously, the foyer contained heraldic items geared more toward the Signal Regiment, and with the revision, a command study will determine the focus point to include Fort Gordon's total mission, not just the signal component but all mission commands located on the installation.
Meanwhile, the Signal Theater underwent some cosmetic updates in preparation to its use. Alexander Hall was kept open a few weeks longer to accommodate already scheduled events. Units will not be denied use of the theater but should continue to use the same request process through DPTMS to avoid scheduling conflicts with other graduations, retirement ceremonies and command programs. Contact the DPTMS plans branch at (706) 791-5321 or (706) 791-9841 for scheduling requests.
"We have tried to minimize and eliminate any inconvenience to the customers in support of the units here," said Fitzpatrick.
The allotted parking is one of the inconveniences with use of the substitute location.
Units are requested to march Soldiers to the theater for events, and others to use parking lots located along B Street, along Chamberlain Avenue, and parking lots south of Barton Field.
"Just like any other road work or facility work, it's an inconvenience at this moment but that's the cost of transformation and growth to make facilities better for the next generation," said Fitzpatrick.
During special events, VIPs will use limited parking on Barton Field, and the Installation Support Detachment will provide cart service from the distant parking lots.
