On 15 February 2016, we will recognize the federal holiday honoring President George Washington's Birthday, more popularly known as "Presidents' Day." In recent years, the holiday has evolved and is an occasion to recognize and remember Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, as well as all the Presidents who have served our great Nation.
Like Independence Day, President's Day is a time of patriotic celebration, and a time to remember and honor the 44 Presidents who had the honor and privilege to lead our great Nation. This should also be a particularly significant day for men and women of the Armed Forces, for the President is also our Commander-in-Chief. Many of our children have spent the past week in school learning about the accomplishments of the presidents, often with a focus on the lives of President Washington and President Lincoln. I encourage you to join them in this endeavor, and to please take time this weekend to reflect, honor, and celebrate these great American presidents.
As with our other holidays, safety should always be at the forefront, especially when planning activities. If traveling during this time of year, share with someone your destination, route, and expected arrival time. This type of information becomes essential in the event of car trouble where assistance is needed. When traveling to places where winter weather can be somewhat severe, ensure your vehicle is winterized and an emergency kit prepared. A weather-related driving emergency is much greater in winter than in any other season. Remember to plan your holiday weekend activities with an eye toward minimizing hazards and risks. Use your seat belts and insist that your passengers use them. I want each of you to return to work rested, renewed, and ready to support AMC and the Warfighter.
All of you are valued members of the AMC team. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
AMC SAFE IS ARMY STRONG!
