FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. -- The new Boak Dental Clinic will conduct a formal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 9 a.m. Feb. 2 commemorating the clinic's re-memorialization and official grand opening.

The new $13,207,860, 18,266 square foot clinic serves the 20,000 initial entry and Advanced Individual Training population on Fort Leonard Wood with 30 dental chairs and 20 dental providers.

Dental capabilities at Boak include a dental lab work room, decontamination/sterilization/clean instrument storage rooms, and a dual x-ray suite in each room with intraoral, panoramic and cephalostat x-ray. The facility also houses a central supply and administrative support space.

"I'm excited," said Col. Alex Eke, U.S. Army Dental Activity commander at Fort Leonard Wood. "The facility is very energy efficient and it optimizes dental care for the fort Leonard Wood community."

"Roll Dental Clinic staff moved into the Boak facility during the New Year holidays," said Morgan Dowling, administration and executive officer at the Fort Leonard Wood U.S. Army DENTAC. "This allowed staff members to rehearse, do all their drills, make sure they were familiar with all of their equipment, and work out all of the bugs to reduce any loss of patient time."

The original Boak Dental Clinic on the corner of FLW 1 and Minnesota Ave. was dedicated Aug. 6, 1965. The clinic was in service for over 20 years until troop levels decreased and newer clinics were built here in 1984, said Dowling.

Col. Siebert Davis Boak is credited with organizing and operating the Army Dental School at Walter Reed General Hospital in 1922 after receiving the Distinguished Service Medal during World War I and being promoted directly from Captain to Colonel.

The Boak Dental Clinic is located near the Richard G. Wilson Soldier-Centered Medical Home Consolidated Troop Medical Clinic on Fort Leonard Wood.
