ROSE BARRACKS, Germany -- As the New Year starts, so does the responsibility of leading Troopers for the newest senior enlisted advisor of 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment.

Command Sgt. Maj. Joe C. Chadwick III was introduced as the new senior Noncommissioned officer for the squadron during his assumption of responsibility ceremony held at Memorial Gym located on Rose Barracks, Germany, January 7, 2016.

"This assumption of responsibility marks the end of a time of significant change in the Squadron," said Lt. Col. Steven E. Gventer, 2nd Squadron Commander. "Today we face the foreseen changes as we welcome Command Sgt. Maj. Joe Chadwick, his wife Margie and three of their five children, here today, in Germany."

During the ceremony, the unit's NCO of the Quarter, presented Chadwick's wife with a bouquet of yellow roses, welcoming her and their children to the squadron.

Following the flower presentation, both Gventer and Chadwick participated in a ceremonial tradition with the passing of the NCO sword from the commander to the new command sergeant major, symbolizing the passing and assumption of responsibility.

"This is an honor to be selected as the command sergeant major for such an historical organization," said Chadwick. "Together, we will maintain the proud legacy of the 'Cougar' Squadron and be the finest unit in the Regiment."

As 2016 gets under way, the unit will be facing many challenges throughout the year starting with their upcoming training event, Allied Spirit IV, being held in Hohenfels, Germany later this month.

"Our Army changes leaders, missions and sometimes even locations," said Gventer. "Through all of this change, we continue to be the best Army, with the best and most capable Troopers, and the best units in the entire world."
