FORT BENNING, Ga., (Jan. 6 2016) -- Martin Army Community Hospital announces the activation of a new MedSafe medication drop box. This MedSafe drop box relates to the Department of Pharmacy's continuous efforts to improve safety and provide Soldiers, retirees, Family members and the Fort Benning community a proper disposal option for any unused medications. This easy-to-use system accepts controlled (Schedules II-V), non-controlled, used, unused, over-the-counter, and expired medications.
"This MedSafe receptacle meets all DEA Controlled Substances Act requirements, provides one complete solution, and utilizes incineration as the DEA-preferred method for medication destruction," said Master Sgt. Charles H. Hall, NCOIC, Department of Pharmacy. The MedSafe receptacle is located in the main MACH Outpatient Pharmacy lobby and is fully accessible for patients to drop off medications. Medications being disposed of should be left in the original packaging whenever possible. Prohibited items include; batteries, needles, sharps containers, aerosol cans, trash, and hazardous materials.
