YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea -- It was a chilly day on Dec. 5, but the excitement of the crowd in the stands was fervent enough for them to forget about the weather. That day marked the 19th Army vs. Navy Flag Football Game at Yongsan Garrison.

Both teams tried their best to achieve victory, but the goddess of victory smiled for the Army. The Army gave a merciless offense and led with a score of 14-0 at half time. The Navy couldn't overcome the situation befalling them. The final score was 20-0. The trophy was handed over to the Army team and they celebrated by singing 'the Army Goes Rolling Along.'

Unlike the Army vs Navy game held at the U.S. east coast, the Navy has not been able to beat the Army in Yongsan Garrison since 2011.

"The Army dominated the Navy," said Spc. Jackson, one of the players of the Army team. "I think they tried what they could do. For me, team spirit is being together to have fun, compete and enjoy each other during the time they have. It was a fun matchup."

More than 200 people including families of service members and command teams from both branches turned out to cheer for their teams. Cheerleading was performed by students from Seoul American High School.

The U.S. Army and the Navy have long been great comrades in battle, but they have also been each other's greatest rivals on the field. Yongsan Garrison has been holding the Flag Football Game since 1996 for service members who are unable to enjoy the excitement of big game held at home.
