FORT HOOD, Texas - "You help others - often people you do not know - and/or commit to something bigger than yourself," said Maj. Gen. Michael Bills, the commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division, speaking to a crowd gathered at the Phantom Warrior Center, here, Dec. 8.

The room was filled with volunteers from across the division that had gathered to be recognized for their efforts.

Both civilians and 1st Cav. Div. Troopers, were among those being honored - all having given their free time to the unit they are a part of, Fort Hood or to the local community.

In all, 36 volunteers were honored for their service as part of the 1st Cav. Div. family.

It's nice to be recognized but she doesn't volunteer to be recognized, said Angela Stewart, a key caller for Troop B, 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team.

"I like giving my time to other people it's something that I really enjoy," said Stewart. "I like to do things for others."
