Soldiers in training from Companys A and F, 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment, observed a joint airpower demonstration Dec. 3 at Cannon Range. They observed two Army National Guard AH-64 Apache helicopters from 1st Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment, and two Air Force Reserve A-10 Thunderbolt IIs from the 303rd Fighter Squadron, 442nd Fighter Wing, both units out of Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, simulate firing missions. The missions were called for by Air Force Tech. Sgt. Fred Moreton and Air Force Staff Sgt. Justin Davis, both Joint Tactical Air Control Party specialists with 146th Air Support Operations Squadron, Oklahoma Air National Guard. According to Capt. Jeffery O'Conner, operations officer, 1st Bn., 48th Inf., this is a real-life demonstration of the radio and land navigation skills the drill sergeants have been teaching, with the added motivation of seeing it all come together in a joint environment.
