SMITH BARRACKS, Germany - Knight's Brigade leaders "shocked" their troops Dec. 2 here.

The Headquarters and Headquarters Company Maintenance Section received a 24-hour warning order to establish a forward maintenance control point within the Baumholder Training Area.

Over the past few quarters, the 16th Special Troops Battalion has executed shock events across Germany and Italy to test each unit's deployment readiness to move to a location.

The HHC Maintenance Section drew weapons and sensitive items, dispatched vehicles, and loaded vehicles.

The event let the battalion staff and leadership assess HHC's equipment readiness.

Through this event, the section identified their need for additional heaters and maintenance tents to operate in an austere environment.

The maintenance section and observer / controllers conducted an after action review to identify shortfalls in the plan and cover the overall execution.

The section's leadership was impressed with the team's accomplishment.
