SALADO, Texas - Christmas music reverberated through the downtown area here as the 1st Cavalry Division Band played and onlookers waved to Soldiers mounted on horses and saluted the 25-manned, military formation as they called cadences.

These First Team Troopers participated in the 15th annual Salado Christmas Parade here Dec. 3 alongside members of the community. The parade marked the beginning of Salado's Christmas festivities.

"I love seeing the Soldiers in the parade," said Allison Clennon, store manager of the Sugar Shack in Salado. "[The parade] helps bring communities together with the men and women who sacrifice so much for our country."

As part of Fort Hood's community relations mission to strengthen ties, brigade-sized elements from 1st Cav. Div. are partnered with different cities within the Central Texas area. The 3d Cavalry Regiment is partnered with the city of Salado.

"Although the 3d Cavalry Regiment couldn't be part of this year's parade due to our intensive two-week, live-fire exercise, we are proud to be partnered with the great city of Salado - especially during the holiday season," said Command Sgt. Maj. Bryan Barker, senior enlisted advisor, 3d CR.

The regiment is preparing for their month-long rotation at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, in February, said Barker.
