FORT HOOD, Texas --Gen. Mark Milley, U. S. Army Chief of Staff, got a first-hand look at the new Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Nov. 24.

Milley, along with his wife Holleyanne, scanned the foyer and grand staircase, and then toured the Intensive Care unit while taking note of a few other spots in the facility during their recent visit to Fort Hood.

The former III Corps and Fort Hood commanding general noted how impressive the new facility is with its patient-centered focus and the state of the art technology and equipment that will enable increased access to care for Soldiers, Family Members, and Retirees of the Great Place.

"This sets a new standard," said Milley, as he surveyed the world-class facilities CRDAMC staff will soon occupy.

"We are set to begin patient care on April 3rd," Col. Mark W. Thompson said. "We experienced a little flooding in the basement a few weeks ago due to recent heavy rains, but nothing to set us back."

"The fact that it happened when it did, allowed the construction teams to shore up a few things before we actually begin care in the facility," Thompson said. "Everyone did an outstanding job to ensure we remain on track for the spring opening."

During the brief tour, Gen. and Mrs. Milley echoed the sentiment shared by the CRDAMC team; this facility will set a new standard for care in the Army.

"It's truly one of the best hospitals I've ever been in," Thompson said.
