CAMP ZAMA, Japan (Nov. 14, 2015) -- About 200 Japanese and American Girls' Scouts participated in the 11th annual two-day Halloween Camp held at Ashigara Fureai no Mura (a Kanagawa Prefecture conference center) Nov. 7 and 8.
Twenty-five Camp Zama Girls' Scouts joined in this cross-cultural exchange in addition to Girls' Scouts from Yokota, Atsugi, and Yokosuka military bases.
Each year, the camp organized by Friends of the United States (FOU) and affiliated with the Girls' Scouts of Kanagawa; however the camp activities are planned by the girls' scouts and has the goal to foster new and lasting friendships.
Japanese and American Girls' Scouts were combined into various age-determined patrols that experienced each activity together- learning and playing together.
The first day, Halloween campers enjoyed activities surrounding the theme of "school." The camp brought to life a taste of what Japanese's school are like; focusing on the subjects of Arts and Culture, Gym, Science, and Home Economics.
The second day, the American Girls' Scouts put together Halloween activities for all the campers to enjoy.
All of the Girls' Scouts wore costumes while enjoying over 15 different activity stations.
Halloween Camp gave Japanese and American Girls' Scouts the opportunity to learn more about each other's culture while also finding a common bond through play and learning.
