FORT BENNING, Ga., (Nov.11 2015) -- As we pause to honor and remember the men and women, both past and present, who have honorably answered our nation's call to duty, we also remember our Fallen Soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom. We remember their spirit and legacies today and always.
Veterans Day was established as Armistice Day on Nov. 11, 1919, to mark the anniversary of the conclusion of World War I and to recognize the sacrifices of those who fought in that conflict. It was renamed in 1954 following World War II and the Korean War by President Eisenhower to recognize and honor all of those serving and who had served in our armed forces.
This 11th of November, I am privileged to lead the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning, home of the heart and soul of our all-volunteer Army's maneuver training force. This Veterans Day, I ask you all to take a moment to reflect upon your service and the service and sacrifices of your fellow Soldiers, community veterans, and their Families.
I am grateful for all of our Veterans for your remarkable contribution and service to our country. You are all truly among the best our nation has to offer.
One Force, One Fight!
