FORT BENNING, Ga., (Nov.11 2015) -- We proudly join our Marine comrades in celebrating the 240th Marine Corps Birthday Nov. 10.

The Marine Corps was established in 1775 with the first two battalion of Marines placed under the leadership of the first appointed commandant of the Continental Marines, Samuel Nicholas. Serving on land and at sea, these first Marines distinguished themselves in a number of important operations, including their first amphibious raid into the Bahamas in March 1776. Ever since, Marines have been the first branch of the military to distinctly serve in every war earning their remarkable reputation and serving honorably.

Today, our fellow Marines continue to remarkably contribute to our global security force and confront challenges with ultimate courage, loyalty and self-sacrifice. Since 2011, we are proud to be home to the Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Benning where superior training is provided to our operating forces.

On behalf of all of our Soldiers, civilians and Family members - Happy 240th Birthday Marines! We salute you.

One Force, One Fight!
