Meals and deals on offer for Veterans Day

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- In appreciation for military service, many restaurants and companies want to thank our active-duty service members and veterans by providing them with discounts or a free meal on Veterans Day. This list in no way claims to be all-inclusive and is only offered as a service to military and veteran community.

TWO NOTES BEFORE JUMPING IN:

•Proof of Military Service. Most companies require some form of military ID. These include: a Military ID card (active/reserve/retired); Veterans Affairs card; current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES); drivers license with veterans designation; photograph in uniform; be wearing uniform (if your service permits); veterans organization card (e.g., American Legion and VFW); DD214; discharge paperwork; or other form of identification. Other restaurants and companies may go by the honor system.

•Participation. Second, always call ahead to verify locations, times, and participation. Many of the listed companies are franchises and may have different policies. We will do our best to keep this page updated as we find new info.

A partial list of discounts follows. Inclusion in this list does not imply endorsement by the Presidio of Monterey, U.S. Army or Department of Defense. Contact business websites or individual restaurants to confirm offer.

RESTAURANTS:

Applebee's: Offering a free meal to military veterans and active-duty service members on Monday, Nov. 11, 2015. There will be seven entrées to choose from, beverage and gratuity not included. Military ID or proof of service required.

Baker's Square: Veterans and active duty get a complimentary breakfast on Veterans Day at participating locations. Choose between Buttermilk Pancakes, three slices of French toast or a Belgian Waffle.

BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse: Visit your local BJ's restaurant and enjoy a free entree under $12.95.Offer valid to all veterans and active-duty military, with proof of service.

Black Angus Steakhouse: Veterans and active duty personnel will receive a free steakhouse cheeseburger & fries.

Boston Market: Boston Market is offering a free individual dessert with individual meal purchase on November 11 with military ID.

California Pizza Kitchen: Nov. 11, 2015. Free meal and non-alcoholic beverage for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service. Dine-in only.

Chili's: Free meal, Nov. 11, 2015. Chili's is offering veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service their choice of one of seven meals during the dinner hour, or any lunch combo during lunch. Offer only available at participating Chili's in the U.S. only. Dine-in from limited menu only; beverages and gratuity not included.

Chuck E. Cheese's: Veterans and active duty military get 20 free tokens from November 9 through November 15.

Denny's: Veterans Day Appreciation Event offers free all-you-can-eat pancakes from 5 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 11 for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service. Offer available in every Denny's nationwide.

Famous Dave's: One Meat Salute (free One Meat Lunch Combo with valid Military ID) Offer varies by location, check www.famousdaves.com or call your local restaurant for more info.

Golden Corral: Free meal, Nov. 11, 2015. Golden Corral Restaurants' Military Appreciation Night free dinner will be available on November 11, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Military retirees, veterans, active duty, National Guard and Re-serves are all welcome. Hometown Buffet: Active duty, reservists and retired military may enjoy a free dine-in lunch at participating Hometown Buffet locations. Show your military ID or proof of service to enjoy the free meal

Hooters: Free meal, Nov. 11, 2015. Hooter's is serving up a free meal to military veterans all day on Veterans Day, up to $10.99 in value with any drink purchase. Offer good for all veterans and active-duty military personnel. Open to all active duty and military veterans with valid military ID or proof of military service. For more information, visit

IHOP: Participating IHOP Restaurants around the nation will be honoring the brave men and women who have served, or are serving, in the United States Military by offering them free Red, White and Blue pancakes. At some locations, the Red, White and Blue pancakes will be featured as part of a free combo plate including eggs, bacon and hashed browns.

Ikea: Nov. 8 -- Nov. 11, 2015 veterans can enjoy a free entree at Ikea. Please show some form of military ID.

Krispy Kreme: Free doughnut and small coffee, Nov. 11, 2015. Available at participating Krispy Kreme stores. Offer available to active duty, retirees & veterans. Call ahead to verify your local Krispy Kreme is a participating location.

Little Caesars Pizza: Nov. 11, 2015. Free Crazy $5 Hot-n-Ready lunch combo from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at participating Little Caesars Pizza locations for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service at participating stores nationwide. Call ahead to verify participation.

Olive Garden: November 11, 2015 all veterans and military active duty will receive a free meal including entrees, freshly baked garlic breadsticks and a choice of unlimited soup or salad.

Outback Steakhouse: Nov. 11, 2015. Outback Steakhouse is honoring America's military veterans by offering veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service a free Bloomin' Onion and a non-alcoholic beverage. Also receive 10-percent off your purchase from Nov. 12-Dec 31, 2015.

Red Lobster: Nov. 11-14, 2015. Free appetizer on Veterans Day with military ID or proof of service. Vets may choose from a select list of appetizers.

Red Robin: Nov. 11, 2015. Free Red's Tavern Double and Bottomless Steak Fries for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service.

Spaghetti Warehouse: Nov. 9 - 11, 2015. Monday through Wednesday, which is Veterans Day, please honor your favorite Veteran with Our incredible 15-Layer Lasagna or our Famous Spaghetti & Meatballs. It's our THREE DAY Buy One Get One Free Veteran's Day Event Friends and relatives are encouraged to treat a veteran to a meal.

Sizzler Restaurants: Nov. 11, 2015. Free lunch served until 4 p.m. Choice of three entrees. Valid with proof of military service. Dine-in only, not valid for salad bar, beverage or gratuity.

Starbucks: Nov. 11, 2015. Former and active-duty service members and their spouses receive a free tall brewed coffee.

T.G.I. Friday's: "Lunch on us" 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 11, 2015. Valid for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service.

The Olive Garden: Free entrée Nov. 11, 2015. Offer good for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service. Chose from a special menu; all entrées include freshly baked garlic sticks and choice of soup or salad.

Tony Roma's: Nov. 11, 2015. Veterans and active military personnel receive a free draft beer on November 11 at participating locations veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service; call ahead to verify participation.

Uno Chicago Grill: Nov. 11, 2015. Free individual pizza or entrée with the purchase of a pizza or entrée of equal or greater value. Available for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service. No coupon necessary.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Monterey Bay Aquarium: Nov. 9-11, 2015. Free admission for veterans, active-duty military, reservists and retirees who present valid military ID at the main entrance. Note that family members of military personnel need to purchase tickets at participating military bases, such as the Presidio of Monterey's Leisure Tours and Travel Services, which is co-located with the Outdoor Recreation program, otherwise general-admission rates will apply if purchased at the main entrance; children under 3 are free. As usual, veterans with ID receive 10 percent off merchandise in the aquarium's gift and bookstores. Hours Nov. 9-11 are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

National Parks Fee-Free Day: To honor America's service men and women, the Secretary of the Interior has announced that areas managed by the National Park Service would not charge entrance fees for Veterans Day weekend: Nov. 9-11, 2015. Everyone is eligible, not just veterans.

Anheuser-Busch Parks: Anheuser-Busch Parks offers active-duty service members free admission for them and up to three dependents to any of their parks once a year. Throughout 2015, members of the military and as many as three direct dependents may enter SeaWorld, Busch Gardens or Sesame Place parks with a single-day complimentary admission. The Here's to the Heroes program is only available to active duty, activated or drilling reservist, or National Guard member. Eligible parks include: Adventure Island, Busch Gardens (Tampa Bay or Williamsburg), SeaWorld (Orlando, San Diego, or San Antonio), Sesame Place, and Water Country USA. Not valid at Discovery Cove and Aquatica. Christmas Town at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va. is not included as part of this program.

Knotts Berry Farm Military Tribute Days: Free Admission 2015. Knott's Berry Farm has an annual Military Tribute event in which they offer military members past and present by offering free park admission. This year the Military Tribute Days run from Nov. 1-20. Veterans or current serving military personnel plus one guest get in FREE with proper ID presented at Knott's turnstile (DD214, Veterans Administration Hospital ID or Active Military Service ID). Purchase up to six additional discount tickets may be purchased at Knott's ticket booths for only $25 each from November 1, 2015 through November 20, 2015 and for $30 each November 21 through December 20, 2015. Military personnel may also purchase additional tickets at a participating local Military ticket office.

RETAIL:

Bed Bath and Beyond: Nov. 9-11, 2015. A 20-percent discount on entire purchase. This is good for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service.

Big Lots: Saturday, Nov. 9, 2015. A 10-percent discount on entire purchase, including sale and clearance items. Offer available to active duty, Guard/Reserve, veterans, retirees and immediate family members with valid ID.

Dollar General: Nov. 11, 2015. A 10% discount on entire purchase on Veterans Day. Offer good for all active-duty military, retirees, veterans, Guard/Reserve, and immediate family members. The coupon can be found in the store circular, or by asking an employee.

Home Depot Military Discount: The Home Depot is offering active duty personnel, reservists, retired military, veterans and their families a 10 percent discount off their purchases in honor of Veteran's Day. The offer is valid on purchases of up to $2,000 for a maximum of $200 and is available at The Home Depot stores, The Home Depot Design Center locations, Yardbirds and EXPO Design Center(R) locations. The 10-percent military discount is available everyday for active duty and retirees, but not all veterans. Home Depot makes this offer available to all veterans on major military holidays, including Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and July 4th.

JC Penney: Nov. 6-11, 2015. An extra 20 percent off on in-store purchases for veterans and family members. ID or proof of service required.

Lowe's Military Discount: Lowe's offers active, reserve, honorably discharged, retired military personnel and their immediate family members a 10 percent discount on in-store U.S. purchases made during the Veterans Day holiday. The discount is available on in-stock and special order purchases up to $5,000. To qualify, individuals must present a valid military ID or other proof of service. Excluded from the discount are sales via Lowes.com, previous sales, and purchases of services or gift cards. Like Home Depot, Lowes offers this discount daily to active-duty military members, but not to veterans. However, they extend the offer to military veterans on military holidays.

Sleep Number : From October 19 through November 15, active and veteran military members will receive exclusive discounts on Sleep Number products. Save up to $700 on select Sleep Number mattress sets.

Walgreens: Nov. 11, 2015. A 15-percent discount on eligible store items and 20-percent discount off Walgreens label for veterans and active-duty military with valid ID or proof of service.

Wheel Works: Between November 8 and 15, veterans and active duty personnel receive an additional 10% off the lowest advertised price of any automotive service.
